Press tooling for yet more stainless parts….. all for our current bronze gates project. All tooling laser cut as well as a rather effective cutting jig that allows for super accurate feather edge saw cuts at precise widths. Making one of our Edge handrails this morning, forged in stainless, beautifully simple with a slight fullered texture. Hot punched on edge the ‘hard way’ with little room for error. So much so that using the hydraulic press isnt an option with these. Love this design. This one will be in patinated bronze as with the original. Great to be invited to be the first maker in the “Window showcase” in Lewes. The first steps in a project that uses unused retail space in the town to showcase members of the @themakersdirectory . This selection of work will be in Station street for the next 6 weeks.

Here’s a few shots of the 2 extra large editions of our Fold and Upset fire baskets before they are crated up to ship. Commissioned by @kureckjones for a project of theirs in Rhode Island, these pieces of ironwork will last a lifetime. Really enjoyed forging these, particularly how well these scaled up from the originals. We’ve got a couple of large fire baskets underway at the moment for an architecture studio in the US. Both these designs are larger editions of the Fold and Upset fire baskets. As these are so much larger than the originals we’ve had to remake all the custom tooling. Pair of gates for some nice people in Kew, west London. This design wasn’t what I originally proposed but instead evolved into something more client lead. The leaf forms are taken from the surrounding trees and they were excited about combining details from several of my design proposals…… not how I usually work and my initial thoughts were 🙄 but it turned out great and was fun to make. Soon to be covered in Wisteria , this version uses T sections and echos French ironwork at the turn of the last century. It’s almost a wrap on this one. As ever it’s always hugely satisfying to see all the myriad elements come together. All it needs now is the swept zinc roof that is being supplied by a specialist contractor.
