Final laser check before galvanising…. Happily all the dims were spot on and exactly as my original CAD drawing, lucky as there’s probably not much we could have done to adjust . These guys are quite possibly the most rigid pair of gates I’ve ever made!…… Very satisfying to see the flow of the infill too. #gates #forged #ironwork #iron #gate #entrancegate #blacksmithdesigner #architectural #metaldesign #craft

There’s something about octagons….

These guys made into into the wild today, or rathe

These guys made into into the wild today, or rather the entrance to the @sussexwildlifetrust Deneway nature reserve. This is a green corridor that links Brighton to the downland beyond. The gates feature native leaves that are found in the reserve….. We used the existing cast iron posts which were far from plumb in all directions, but a careful site survey and off set hinges saved the day. We also made up new saddles for the pintels as the old ones were completely worn out. Forged hardware for a pair of new oak gates in my home town Lewes. The latch makes use of the existing latch keep in the old brickwork. Oak and iron are always good bed fellows, all of these are galvanised including the wood screws to minimise tannin staining. #forged #latch #hardware #ironmongery #bespoke #clunk #details #blacksmithdesigner

Freshly back from my Italian adventures it seems pretty apt to wrap up this Olive tree gate….almost as juicy as a ripe tuscan olive this gate forms part of a bigger parcel of work that’s underway, including a balcony and railings, all eventually for a Brighton town house.

All done on this project….. a rework of a design from 15 odd years ago but with freestanding posts and different seed head forms. There’s been quite a flurry of activity lately as we wrap up projects before I head off to Italy for a few weeks to gorge on antipasti and sip chianti. 🍷 …. Exciting to see this one in the wild 🦓……..This balustrade was deceptively complicated as we couldn’t fix onto the lead parapet but instead had to rely on swept outriggers for rigidity all the while balancing this with the flow of the undulating looped design. I’m excited to bring this one of the page……Textured plate, lots of punched holes and joggles…. This one is gonna look great. I’ve had a few occasions recently of designs that never happened belatedly getting their day in the sun, this was originally developed for a house on the Isle of Wight in 2016.
