This wishbone table in hand forged iron has just been delivered to Antique tables ltd in West Sussex . Here they will be carefully fitting a 3m long bespoke table top in English oak before shipping the piece to clients in Switzerland.
The forged wishbone table base is 2.4 m long and is comprised of only five parts, all of which are connected together using meticulously crafted forged joinery. Large 25mm tenons have been hot riveted together giving a strong visually satisfying connection that echoes the processes used in the making of this piece.
The table is made from 60mm iron sections that have been forged down under our 2cwt Massey clear space forging hammer. Once cooled the iron is burnished by hand to remove mill scale and highlight the rich texture and patine that is left from the hammer blows. Finally the iron is carefully sealed and polished with several layers of micro crystalline wax. The wishbone table is an heirloom piece of furniture built to last generations.
