Wheat and scythes

I have just had the go ahead on this sculptural railing. Inspired by the vista of rolling downland beyond, the design references our agricultural past, the client was keen to avoid anything too linear. Lots of forged tapers, rivets and fire welds, it should make for a great piece of work.

forging under massey power hammer

Forging collar welds

Here's Michael forging a collar weld under the Massey using a new sprung tool that I have just made. Strangely the final forgings look a bit like pears before the wastage is cut from the end. It worked really well with the final forms over 60mm in diameter.
