We are currently working on a gothic arch balustrade that will eventually be installed over a bridge overlooking a lake in a new garden in Steyning, West Sussex.
The house and garden stretch back many hundreds of years and feature a beautiful stonework folly on the entrance to the manor house. The railing design references existing metalwork on the property, using the classic motif of the gothic arch. We opted to keep the design fairly simple, each upright has a fire welded connection and is hot riveted to the next upright. Each of the balustrades is just over 4 m long and has a curved profile towards each end , meaning each entrance opens out , almost welcoming you to step onto the bridge.
These curves proved a challenge with the overlapping riveted gothic details but carefully bending each upright in turn we were able to ensure a smooth and effortless flow across the railing.
The gothic arch balustrade will be galvanised and wet painted in a teal blue colour as with all the other garden metalwork in this estate
