Gothic Arch Railings

Gothic arch railings recently completed for Gatewick House in West Sussex. A stunning Georgian property with a rich architectural history. These hand forged iron railings were commissioned to provide guarding around the culvert of a nearby pond. The gothic arch design echos architectural detailing on the facade of this period house. We suggested to our client that introducing a gentle curve to the ends of the railings might make the space more inviting. Happily they agreed and the resulting layout worked very well.
The gardens for this property are part of a decade long project and the creation of a new ‘romantic’ garden, involving thousands of plants and landscaping work on a monumental scale. The railings were galvanised and sprayed a Green Grey colour which was particularly successful and a refreshing change from the darker tones which so often feature in much decorative ironwork.
Our skilled blacksmiths used a range of traditional forging processes on these Gothic arch railings. The uprights were individually fire welded together ensuring clean fluid transitions. The resulting overlaps in the arches were then hot riveted ensuring an extremely strong durable and elegant railing.
